Practice #2

The boys should sleep well tonight,  they did quite a bit of running on a pretty large field!  I was happy to see some of them laying down like they did some hard work near the end!

We worked pretty exclusively on passing tonight. This probably seems like a pretty boring thing, but it is quite essential to the game, and I did my best to make the drills as fun as possible.  From what i have seen, kids at this age mostly need to learn to use the whole field, and their teammates in order to move the ball into position to score.  Hopefully, tonight's practice got them a little more comfortable with passing and they will be inclined to use the skills in a game situation.

Our next practice is on Wednesday at 7PM. We will actually have a field 8A  by then.  I will try and get out there and let you know approximately where the field is located.  We are going to work on penalty kicks and throw ins.  And I hope to be able to do some intra-squad scrimmage.  I'm going to rotate the boys through all positions (If they want to opt out of goal keeping that is fine, but I want them to play a bit of the rest in practice).  The best teacher is experience, so we will try and do a lot of this in the next two practices.

I want the boys to work on lofting the ball if they have time at home.  It will be a valuable skill for them going forward.  I will try and find some resources to help them get under the ball and post them here.

I believe i will have the schedule this weekend,  I will relay the information as I receive it.

And sorry Carter,  I refused to let them say Buckeyes as the chant at the end of practice (Go Irish!) :-)

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks!
