The winter program game format is modeled after US Youth Soccer Small Sided game recommendations.  Players will have significantly more touches on the ball which inspires creativity and enthusiasm for the game. This game format is fast paced and has been proven to maximize player engagement. Like all Eastside FC programs, the purpose of the winter program is to allow players to have FUN while developing skills and a love for the game.

Number of Players:
Games are played 4 -vs- 4 without a goalie.

Game Length:
Games consist of four 12 minute quarters for a total game time of 48 minutes. Games will start promptly at the scheduled start time as field availability is limited during the winter sessions

Referees:
All games will be officiated by a certified referee.  Referees will be provided by ESFC.

Schedule:
Games will be played every Saturday during the season except during winter breaks

My child has never played soccer, is this the right program for players new to the sport?
Absolutely, the Eastside FC recreation program is perfect for introducing your son or daughter to soccer. The program is focused on fun and basic skill development.  Thousands of young players in our community got their start in Eastside’s recreation program.

Which age group is my son or daughter eligible to play in?
The "U" in each age group stands for under.  So, a U7 division is for players who are under 7 years old.  In the recreation division the cutoff date is August 1st of each year. Meaning,  if your son or daughter is under 7 years old on August 1st, they would be eligible to play in the U7 division in the fall, winter and the spring season in the following year. The only exception to this rule is the U14 team; any player currently in the 8th grade or lower is eligible for the U14 division.

How do I register for the program?
Simply log in to your Eastside FC account by clicking on the "Log In" at the top of this page.   If you do not have a Eastside FC account, go ahead and create one by following the prompts after clicking the "Register" button.  Please remember your username and password as you will need it to access your account in the future.

What equipment will my child need?
Uniforms consist of a reversible jersey which is available for purchase at The Campus Shop for $30. Black shorts, black socks, shin guards and cleats are recommended.

How are teams formed?
Players are organized by age group and when possible, children who go to school together will be placed on the same team.  We also strive to maintain the same boy to girl ratio across teams.

Can I request to be placed on a team with a specific player?
Absolutely, we will certainly attempt to honor all special requests as long as we’re able to maintain a good competitive balance across teams. Special requests are less likely to be honored if the player is signs up late in the registration process as rosters are formed on a first come, first serve basis.

Where are games played?
Games are played at MAC Dome. A map showing the specific location of the Dome can be found on our Recreation Fields page.  ** NO FOOD OR BEVERAGES ALLOWED IN THE MAC DOME EXCEPT WATER **

When will game schedules be available?
Schedules for games will typically be available on your team page 7-10 days prior to the start of the season. Game times for the winter sessions are as follows:

  • U5 & U6 Games    - 11:00am or 12:00pm

What are the 4 v 4 game rules?

    • Games are played 4 -vs- 4 without a goalie.
    • Games consist of a total game time of 48 minutes without breaks.
    • Substitutions should occur every 6 min and should be monitored by the coaches.
    • Score is NOT kept.
    • Goals can only be scored once a player has passed the half field line.
    • Players can NOT score a goal from a goal kick or a kick in from the sideline. This encourages players to pass the ball and work as a team rather than attempting to kick the ball the length of the field.
    • Players CAN score a goal from a corner kick.
    • Slide tackling is NOT allowed due to the safety risks involved.
    • Heading is NOT allowed. The restart should be an indirect free kick for the opposing team from the spot where the heading occurred.
    • Offside is NOT called.

When will the team practice?
Teams do not practice during the winter sessions.

What resources are available for volunteer coaches?
Eastside FC Coaching Resources web page includes practice plans and tips on how to create a fun and enjoyable experience the players and parents.  We have professional coaching staff that are also available to help answer any questions the volunteer coaches may have.  All coaches, board members and volunteers also received concussion awareness training and go through a background check process prior to participating in any club related activities.
